I have chosen to call this “A
Path to Wholeness” not “The Path to Wholeness” because I
don’t pretend to have a monopoly on the act of coming free
in Christ. All we have to do is walk through the Gospels to
see that no two healings looked exactly alike, and so it
would be presumptuous of me to assume that I had some sort
of a market on how to go free from the wounds of the soul
that are the unfortunate birthright of everyone born into
planet earth.
What I have attempted to do
here is only to communicate what has worked for me and what
I believe with all of my heart that God led me to several
years ago. I do this with “fear and trembling” (1
Corinthians 2:3) and with the sincerest desire that maybe,
in some way, someone else could benefit and even be set free
by doing what I have done. The apostle Paul said, “Follow my
example as I follow the example of Christ” (1 Corinthians
11:1), and I believe that our lives should be lived in such
a way that others could follow our footsteps and find the
Lord.
I also believe that this is a
key to emotional freedom, but it is not the key. There are
actually many. Issues of faith, positive confession, and the
walk of the Spirit are among the other components of coming
out of emotional bondage. We need them all and should not
focus on one to the exclusion of others. However, there are
many excellent teachers in the Body of Christ who teach in
these areas, and I don’t want to reinvent the wheel. This
teaching is a part of the story that has been focused on too
little, and my job here is to put it forth as clearly as I
can, but I do that recognizing that we must have all the
teaching of the Church working together to set captives
free.
I said that no two healings
looked alike in the Scriptures, and yet there are some
guiding principles that are at work in God’s Word and in the
world we live in that we would be wise to take note of. My
goal is to set these before the reader in the hope that you
will search your Bible on your own (something that happens
far too little in the Body of Christ) and judge for
yourself. Please read this in tandem with the Scriptures.
If you have suffered with a
checkered past I want to encourage you to give this a shot.
You may have tried lots of things with some or possibly no
result but, please, my friend, do not give up. I believe
that God has led you to pick this up for a reason. What have
you got to lose!? And you might have everything to gain.
I invite you (albeit an
unusual invitation) to join me at the foot of the cross
where we will face our pain and inner loneliness in His
Presence. It will hurt, we will shed some, probably many,
tears, but we will also be transformed. You may be surprised
at what you find! As painful as it may seem right now, this
is an exciting journey. It begins in tears, but it ends with
a harvest.
I promise.
I believe that you have a
desire to be whole. Join me then, warts and hurt, and all,
and let’s be forever changed in His Presence.
What a privilege!
